The Face of the Volunteer
Facing Australia
Karen Donnelly with Raimond de Weerdt and Tony Nott
Established in 2002, Facing Australia is a nationally recognised contemporary photographic project that puts a face to the numbers and a face to the place. Using the Australian Bureau of Statistics - Census of Population and Housing in conjunction with other statistical data Facing Australia creates composite photographic portraits of the Australian population.
The project interrogates notions of identity, one of the most important and debated issues confronting all Australians in the 21st century. Collectively, the composite portraits contribute to the national visual archive capturing time, people and place.
